[09.02.05] Blackout is a new book by Chris Ryan, schedueled to be released on September 1st.

[01.11.03] The Real Heroes of Telemark tells the true story of the sabotage against the heavy water plant at Rjukan, destroying Hitler'shope of a nuclear bomb. Bravery, cunning and endurance over and beyond the call of duty on the part of the SOE (a forerunner of SAS) agents parachuted into Norway made this operation, which met with much problems, possible.

Chris Ryan

Chris Ryan is the pseudonym of one of the other survivors of Bravo Two Zero, the SAS patrol into Iraq that went seriously wrong.

Chris Ryan's book about Bravo Two Zero is called The One That Got Away.

The interested reader may find a lot of tips of how to get fit in Chris Ryan's SAS Fitness Book, while tips for surviving in the wild may be found in Chris Ryan's Ultimate Survival Guide

He has also written the following thrillers that seem well-written, and he gives Andy McNab serious competition:

  • The Hit List
  • The Kremlin Device
  • Stand By, Stand by
  • Tenth Man Down
  • Zero Option
  • The Watchman
  • Land of Fire. 20 years after the Falklands War, the Argentinians are stirring and a small SAS team is sent into the Tierra del Fuego to reconnoitre. From there, much goes wrong...
  • Greed. Ex-SAS Matt Browning, desperately broke, is hired by the MI5 to form a team to part al-Queda from some of their money. The hi-jacking goes according to plan, but then things start to go seriously wrong... Fast action, but the characters are a bit cardboard. I read it all in one setting, though, so it can't be bad.
  • The Increment. Matt Browning has settled down on the Costa del Sol, when the firm heavy-handedly talks him into doing a small job for them. This leads Matt to Belarus, where he and his team takes out a pharmaceutical plant. At the same time, someone is taking out peaceful civilians back home, while ex-soldiers suddenly run amok and kill indiscriminately. Among these ex-soldiers are a friend of Matt, and he sets out to find out what has happened. Not surprisingly, these three strands eventually makes a larger whole, and it comes to a final shoot-out.
  • Flash Flood: Code Red.
  • Ultimate Weapon.
  • Wildfire: Code Red.

Chris Ryan also writes a series of children's action books, the Alpha Force series. The heroes are a group of youngsters. The series presently includes the following books:

Further reading about the SAS regiment:

The Real Bravo Two Zero by Michael Asher (also ex-SAS) represents yet another account of the events. Asher retraced the route and events of Bravo Two Zero ten years later, and tells a slightly different story from McNab and Ryan.

[30.04.03]A must for the reader of modern crime novels, The Mammoth Encyclopedia of Modern Crime Fiction gives a encyclopedic view of post-war crime fiction. For non-English readers it is a drawback that very little non-English material is included, but it is a great fountain of facts about English language authors. Its scope is strictly crime, leaving thrillers out - it still fills 780 pages, so you'll have more than enough to read.
More Mammoth Encyclopedias or Mammoth Books of a surprisingly wide range of subjects - Erotic photography, Shaggy Dog stories, Murder and Science and so on....
